Ken's Bird Guiding / Travel Gear
Gear is a big part of a birding guide's life. We're constantly working to make sure that we have the best possible gear, and to keep our current gear working. Life lived on the road makes both a challenge. I'm faced with the additional hurdle of living in Madagascar, a country that virtually lacks international post (and therefore Amazon), meaning that I have to buy carefully selected gear during my occasional trips to the US, or ask friends to bring things on my behalf. No spontaneous buys or "retail therapy" for me! Lastly, I pursue excellence as a guide while trying not to spend an absurd portion of my annual income on gear (unlike a few friends I could name!). All together, these factors have led me to assemble an idiosyncratic arsenal of guiding and travelling gear. I hope that folks enjoy hearing a bit about it!
