GO VERTICAL! This one is simple, but it’s something that a lot of people don’t think about. I’m a big proponent of prime lenses (fixed focal length). But one disadvantage of these lenses is that you can find yourself “too close” to your subject to fit it into the frame. One easy thing to do in this situation is to flip your camera 90 degrees and shoot the subject vertically. That’s what I did with this Yellow-billed Babbler in Sri Lanka, and I’m quite pleased with the result.
